During the class fishbowl discussion, after I heard Levi's point of view of the lobsters in the poem, it made me realize that what he said was completely true. Back in the old days when we had slaves we went directly to Africa and took them away from their homes and placed them upon a big ship and crossed the Atlantic Ocean with them squeeze together in a small amount of space. Once they successfully crossed the ocean, they were put into auctions where they were sold to the highest bidder. That compares to the lobsters in every way. We go to their homes and take them back to our homes and sell them after putting them into a small tank of water.
My perspective of the poem was definitely altered after hearing Levi's input about the poem. When I first heard it I thought of it nothing more than just a poem about a bunch of lobsters in a grocery store, but now I see them as slaves being herded like animals and placed into a cage with shackles, or whittled sticks, restraining them from moving their claws.
I just wrote this and then ccidentally clicked out of it and pressed backspace which took me away from it and then I thought that I lost it...
