Animal Farm Project

I chose to do this kind of project because it shows the relationship with almost every character in the story and has a lot of irony between the animals and the actual people. The animals try so hard to be against the humans yet every day they become more human than ever before.

POL

I can't get to your blog page again so if it's alright I'm just going to tell you my confirmed POL poem. I have decided to do "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." I chose it because it made me feel calm and made me think about the actual poem and not jut the words and because of that, it helped me to remember it. I see mental images that help me to remember the poem as I think about it and say it. It's not like flashbacks or anything. They're just little things like sleigh bells and forests and snow.
I'm sorry if this wasn't what you wanted me to write but I tried my best:)

Poetry

Part one:
1. Difference
2.The Vacuum
3.A Blessing
4. Echo; Faith
Part two:
1. Of the five poems above I really liked Echo the most. It reminded me of a Greek myth that I read in sixth grade. It was about how Echos came to be and I'm pretty sure that's what the point of writing the poem. To write about how Echo must feel since she can't talk.
2.I didn't like the Difference poem however. It was a good poem but it was kind of confusing. I think that if  I read it a bit more I'll understand it more.
3. Echo
4.My favorite Greek myth was the myth about Echo and Narcissus and that's what the poem is about. I think that's why I connected with it better.

Part three: 1. Physical presence and evidence of understanding will probably be the easiest thing for me to do to help me score higher. I can look confident and stand up straight and put a little more emphasis on the important parts of the poem that have a deeper meaning.
2. I think that voice and articulation and dramatic appropriateness will probably be my weak points because I get nervous when speaking or standing up in front of a lot of people and tend to talk faster and while I will be reciting my poem I'll probably be thinking more about the poem and my posture and eye contact that I'll forget about being more dramatic.
Part Four: 1.The first poem recitation that I watched was a poem called Writ on the Steps of  Puerto Rican Harlem by Gregory Corso. What makes this recitation good is how the person stood up straight, made good eye contact with the audience, used actions according to what he had said, and spoke very clearly where it wasn't too fast or too slow.
2. The second poem that I watched was called Forgetfulness by Billy Collins. What made this session of recitation good was how the person's voice added to the feeling of the poem. His posture also added to the way the poem seemed dark and satirical at the same time.
Part Five: I 'm thinking that the poem will definitely be sort of easy going during sessions and tense in between. The people that I've seen reciting are always very calm and that makes them seem happy to be up there. However, I'm pretty sure that when there's not anyone on the stage there will be a lot of people practicing and getting nervous. I think I'll do good enough to get a decent grade but I'm not too sure about getting anywhere past the first stage. I'm going to memorize the poem called,  Echo by Daryl Hines. If you are wondering why I chose it, you can look at a previous part of this post. I think that the poetry out loud website was a good creation. It helps struggling people involved with poetry to see what they need to improve on when reciting, it gives insight on what a good recitation is like and it has a large variety of poems for people to choose from.

"Lobsters"

During the class fishbowl discussion, after I heard Levi's point of view of the lobsters in the poem, it made me realize that what he said was completely true. Back in the old days when we had slaves we went directly to Africa and took them away from their homes and placed them upon a big ship and crossed the Atlantic Ocean with them squeeze together in a small amount of space. Once they successfully crossed the ocean, they were put into auctions where they were sold to the highest bidder. That compares to the lobsters in every way. We go to their homes and take them back to our homes and sell them after putting them into a small tank of water.
My perspective of the poem was definitely altered after hearing Levi's input about the poem. When I first heard it I thought of it nothing more than just a poem about a bunch of lobsters in a grocery store, but now I see them as slaves being herded like animals and placed into a cage with shackles, or whittled sticks, restraining them from moving their claws.

I just wrote this and then ccidentally clicked out of it and pressed backspace which took me away from it and then I thought that I lost it...

Slaughterhouse Five

So far in the book it has been very entertaining. It hasn't made me bored and it keeps me turning the page. The only problem with it is that half the time I don't know what the main story is and i'm 54 pages into the book. Whenever I settle down on one subject in the story it changes the subject and character to someone completely different. So far from what I've read, I think that It's okay to say that the story is about the events that the main character and Bernard are discussing that occurred back in Dresden. Basically, the story is just a flashback about Dresden and the main character and Bernard's reflection on the war.
The closest book that I have ever read to this one would be Number The Stars by Louis Lowry. The only reason that they are related is because they both talk about WWII and events that occured during such time. They both had main character's that were stuck in the crossfire of the second world war.
However, I don't think I'm far enough in the story to be able to base a project off of . I thought about some ideas but I don't think they would be very affective ideas for the project.

My Boo Radley

There could probably be tons of Boo Radley's in my life, or anybody's life, but no matter what there will always be that one in a person's life that they won't forget. A Boo could be many things, but to me it was my mom. I know it sounds mean now, but that' just like Boo. Mean person to begin with but got nicer as time passed.
The reason I would say that my Boo was my mom was because when I was little I never really wanted to do the things that my mom made me do. Like chores or little homework practices and because of that I began to think that she was an evil, mean, person. However, by her doing that it made me into a better person, someone that works hard, and now she is just like my Boo Radley. She watches over me and takes care  to give me presents and little treats from time to time and I just know that one day she will do something just as brave as Boo to save me from something no matter what it is.
My mom never intended to be mean, she just wanted to teach me how to play a board game that I didn't care for. She knew I didn't want to learn how to play it but she was determined to finish what she started. She explained how to play it many times over and I just never listened and that was definiteley the wrong thing to do. If I had just listened and did what she said I would have been able to go back outside and play. The game was Yahtzee, I didn't like it at all. The only thing I liked about it was being able to shake the cup with the dice in it. She was trying to teach me how to get points and I wouldn't listen. So, because of that, she ended up yelling at me and scaring everything off of my bones. I was only five so you can tell that when she yelled at me I took it the wrong way. Now that I'm older I understand that it was just a simple thing and I could have been done with it without that confrontation that I still talk about up to this day.
My mom isn't a bad person she can just get really annoyed with people who don't try and just give up immediately. Now my mom is one of the greatest things to look up to in my life. She has a good job, a nice house, four great kids, and one loving family.
My mom as the Boo in my life relates to Scout's Boo because at first we both thought that our Boo's were terrible people who did bad things. We both also had to step into their shoes and think about how they see what goes on and how people act with each other. In the end both of our Boo's ended up being the ones in our lives that care for us the most.

questions from Mrs. Gilman

I would say that I am a good English student. I work hard and I pay attention. If someone were to follow my block they can expect to see my posts based on Mrs. Gilman's posts. I will enlighten the online world with my posts by following the teachings of Mrs. Gilman. I will create discussions that the whole class could join if they wanted to and work hard to not make my blogs too boring to read. The meaning of English class is to teach/inform kids on the great American classics and to teach proper grammar. These things seem like little things in life but it's always the little things that make the changes. English is a required class to take because knowing proper grammar and having good English also opens your mind to new ideas and helps you to comprehend more things. Excelling in English will help me both personally and academically because I will be able to understand more things in life and that works for both ways. I would be able to talk properly and my writing would be easier to understand with proper English.
